Host cities announced for 2020, 2021, 2022 55+ BC Games

Victoria – The BC Seniors Games Society is pleased to announce the successful host cities for the 2020, 2021 and 2022 55 + BC Games are Richmond, Greater Victoria and Abbotsford.

The BC Senior Games Society, which oversees the 55+ BC Games, anticipates each of these communities will benefit from increased tourism and economic development as well as important legacies such as trained volunteers, major event hosting experience and new or improved infrastructure.

“The three cities of Richmond, Victoria and Abbotsford will provide opportunities for their communities to continue to develop their expertise in managing a large community event, to host mature athletes, and to develop volunteers who can provide skills in other events.” Said Cindy Simpson, President, BC Seniors Games Society.  “Our members will be looking forward to returning to Abbotsford (2006), Richmond (2009), and to a new city host, Victoria. Our board and members look forward to working with each of these communities.”

With five days of competition and cultural events, the annual 55+ BC Games attract more than 3,000 participants aged 55 and over from across the province to compete in more than 23 sports.

“The 55+ BC Games not only casts a spotlight on British Columbia’s vibrant 55-plus population, it gives host communities the opportunity to shine.” said Lisa Beare, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.  “Our government is proud to support the Games, which help B.C. residents stay active and engaged in their communities at any age.”

The 2017 55+ BC Games in Vernon generated an estimated $3.3 million in total economic impact.

The most recent 55+ BC Games successfully wrapped up in Cranbrook/Kimberley in September 2018.  Planning is well underway for the 2019 Kelowna 55+ BC Games which will take place September 10 -14, 2019.

Just came back from the Huntsman World Senior Games. Lot of fun. Participated in 8 events. If trap shooting is added to the 2023 55+ games, I would like to be contacted.
