(Kelowna, B.C.) Kelowna will play host to the 32nd annual 55+ BC Games from Sept 10-14, welcoming thousands of participants to the community to compete and promote active living through sport.
Participants from across the province will compete in 31 different sports. Kelowna’s list of sports offered is larger than typical for the games, and is currently set to include triathlon, fast-pitch, sturling, and 8 Ball as first-time events. Formerly the BC Senior Games, the games prides itself on its diverse offering of sport, with emphasis on the range of interests included and offerings for all physical abilities.
“Kelowna is an ideal host for a large multi-sport event like the 55+ BC Games,” says President of the Kelowna event’s Host Society, David Graham. “Residents know that an active lifestyle is one of our community’s greatest assets and draws. Our Board of Directors believes hosting the games will reinforce that sentiment and create a long-lasting opportunity to promote living at all ages in Kelowna.”
The Kelowna 2019 55+ BC Games are being steered by a volunteer Host Society, guided by the BC Senior Games Society. Along with David Graham, President, the following community members will act as Board of Directors:
- Hugh Gloster
- Keith Grayston
- Lesley Driscoll
- Devin Rubadeau
- Lesley Spiegel
- Ron Forbes
- Valaura Jones
- Tom Dyas
- Dan Rogers
- Warren Turner
- Renata Mills
“An event of this scale will need additional community support,” encourages David Graham. “Nearly 1500 volunteers will be needed throughout the event to ensure the games are successful. We’re looking for people to step up and join our growing team of volunteers.”
