If you have not already heard, Salmon Arm has been selected to host the highly anticipated 55+ BC Games September 2024!
I could not be more delighted – I have wanted our community to host senior or youth games since I was first elected in 2005.
With a dedicated planning committee at the helm, our community is hoping to deliver an extraordinary event that will celebrate active aging and showcase the warm hospitality and natural beauty of our community. This event – which will include more than 20 sports ranging from dragon boating and darts to bowling, crib, hockey, tennis and curling – will also hopefully serve as a springboard for future large-scale events.

The fun and games have already begun, as a team of enthusiastic citizens is being assembled to prepare for the 2024 55+ BC Games to be held in Salmon Arm.
“It’s very exciting as everyone knows; it’s something I wanted our community to host,” said Coun. Debbie Cannon, president of the Games’ board of directors.
Mayor Alan Harrison thanked Cannon for taking on the project.
“Debbie is a festival and event expert and she’s very good at managing people,” he remarked at council’s April 24 meeting.

The welcome mat for participants and visitors coming to Salmon Arm for the 2024 55+ BC Games is rolling out already.
Mayor Alan Harrison donned his skates and took to the ice to help the City of Salmon Arm, Shuswap Recreation Society and the Salmon Arm Economic Development Society (SAEDS) create a video to announce the city is hosting the Games in September 2024.
“We are incredibly grateful to all the people, organizations, groups, clubs and businesses in our community and in the Shuswap region who all came together to support our application. We are so excited to welcome all the athletes to our community September 10-14, 2024. It truly takes a community to assemble a competitive bid package and we are so fortunate to have the community with us to plan the very best 55+ BC Games experience for all!” wrote SAEDS in a statement accompanying the video.
