Sport BC Presidents’ Award – Gordon Oates

Congratulations to Gordon Oates who is the BCSGS’s recipient of the Sport BC Presidents’ Award. The Presidents’ Awards are presented annually to volunteers from Sport BC member organizations who embody the spirit of volunteerism and whose dedication, energy and commitment contribute to the development of their sport or organization.

Gordon has been involved as a participant in the 55+ BC Games since 2002 when he competed in Prince George in Golf. He has gone on to win several medals and competed most recently in Golf at the Salmon Arm 2024 55+ BC Games. In 2009, Gordon was appointed to the BCSGS Executive as the Secretary/Treasurer; a position he holds to this day. In 2010 he became a Level 2 Rules Official for Curl BC. In 2012 he became the Golf Coordinator for Zone 1 Vancouver Island South and passed the Level 1 Golf Rules Official course. Gordon joined one of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Senior Games Association and in 2018 became the President. Gordon has held a number of Executive positions for various organizations including the Terrace Curling Association, Peninsula Youth Soccer Association, Cloverdale Minor Baseball Association and the Terrace Little Theatre Society. 

Gordon has been involved with amateur Theatre over the years having acted, directed and produced plays for the Terrace Little Theatre. The BCSGS appreciates and commends Gordon’s dedication, volunteer commitment and significant contributions throughout the past 23 years as an enthusiastic Golf participant in the 55+ BC Games, the Zone 1 Golf Sport Coordinator and for the 16 years he has served as the Secretary Treasurer.
